Conquering the Leckhampton Common Loop: A Windy Adventure with Unexpected Delights – Walk No.2

Our second group outing promised to be an exhilarating adventure as we tackled the Leckhampton Common Loop—a 4-mile journey characterized by a steady climb and breathtaking views. As we gathered at the Daisy Bank car park, excitement filled the air, tempered only slightly by the late arrival of Jon, Ashleigh, and Thea, who were delayed by unforeseen baby-related mishaps.

Undeterred by the delay, we set off on our trek, eager to explore the rugged beauty of the countryside. The weather, though dry, greeted us with ferocious winds that threatened to whisk away our hats and scarves at every turn. Despite the challenging conditions, our spirits remained high as we navigated the boggy terrain and embraced the thrill of the climb.

Halfway up the hill, our perseverance was rewarded with a delightful surprise—a pair of blue tits flitting among the trees, their vibrant plumage a welcome burst of color against the gray sky. Pausing to admire nature’s beauty, we couldn’t help but marvel at the wonders that awaited us around every corner.

As we continued our ascent, Simon’s new walking boots made their inaugural appearance, providing both comfort and style as we traversed the rugged terrain. And while the wind threatened to buffet us at every turn, Lucy emerged as an unexpected hero, providing much-needed shelter from the elements.

But perhaps the most memorable moment of our journey came at the summit, where Thea decided to indulge in some alfresco dining amidst the beauty of nature. Seated on a nearby rock, she shared her trail mix with our feathered friends, the blue tits, who seemed more than happy to partake in the feast. It was a moment of pure joy and connection, as we watched Thea and the blue tits share a meal in perfect harmony.

As we descended from the summit, our thoughts turned to sustenance, and Simon came to the rescue once again, producing a delightful assortment of snacks in the form of raisins, chocolate buttons, and nuts—otherwise known as trail mix. With renewed energy, we pressed on, fueled by camaraderie and the promise of a well-deserved rest at journey’s end.

As we bid farewell to Leckhampton Common, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for the shared experience and the opportunity to explore the great outdoors with friends old and new.
